Five-year-old boy hospitalized after falling into fire pit in East Wareham

He has “severe burns’’ on his face, head, and arms.

A five-year-old boy was hospitalized with second- and third-degree burns after falling into a fire pit in East Wareham Sunday morning, fire officials said.

Wareham fire, police, and EMS officials responded to Maple Park Campground at around 10:10 a.m., according to Wareham Assistant Fire Chief John Kelley.

The boy was alert and conscious when transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I., with “severe burns’’ to his face, head, and arms, Kelley said.
