ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — Two Massachusetts police officers engaged in an early morning shootout with a suspect but neither was physically injured.

Attleboro Chief Kyle Heagney says although neither officer was struck by gunfire they were both taken to the hospital as a precaution for stress-related issues.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Heagney says officers responding to reports of an armed man in a church at about 6:45 a.m. Monday searched the area and came across a suspect, who opened fire on the officers. The officers returned fire.

At least one police cruiser sustained bullet holes in its windshield.
