Woman rethinks morning swim at Nauset Beach after spotting a shark ‘close to shore’

The sighting happened at the crack of dawn.

Julie Ryder Eitelbach planned on swimming at Nauset Beach in Orleans early Wednesday morning — until she spotted something just offshore.

Instead of taking a dip, Eitelbach took a video and posted it to Facebook. In the video, a shark’s fin can be seen lurking in the water as the sun rises over the ocean.

“Rethinking that morning swim,” she wrote in the video’s caption. “Up close and personal….”

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, which also shared Eitelback’s video on Facebook, confirmed the creature as a white shark.

On Monday, beachgoers spotted a shark swimming “very close” to the seashore at Nauset, prompting officials to close the beach to swimmers for about an hour.
