Report of downed hang glider prompts ocean search

SEABROOK, N.H. (AP) — Rescue crews spent several hours searching the water near Seabrook Beach after a report of a downed aircraft but it’s unclear whether there actually was a missing person.

The U.S. Coast Guard said someone on the beach called 911 around 7:30 p.m. Sunday to report that a blue hang glider had crashed into the ocean about 600 yards off shore. Coast guard officials later told the Boston Globe it was a paraglider, not a hang glider, while Seabrook police described it as a lightweight fixed-wing aircraft. Officials said there were no reports of a missing person.

Local rescue teams also assisted with the search.
