GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Authorities in Massachusetts say good Samaritans rescued a beached whale.
WCVB-TV reports Gloucester resident Lisa Carlson awoke to a strange flapping sound Thursday morning. Carlson ran over to the seawall near her home where she saw a whale was trapped.
One of Carlson’s neighbor’s was able to move a rock out of the whale’s way before the tide went out. The whale shimmied and swam off.
There have been multiple whale sightings this summer in Boston Harbor and at New Hampshire beaches. New England Aquarium Media Relations Director Tony Lacasse believes some whales are coming closer to shore because of the large schools of Menhaden.
