A Methuen man has been cited in connection to the pedestrian crash that took the life of a Cambridge woman late last week, authorities said Tuesday.

The 54-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was cited for negligent operation after he allegedly hit and killed Jie Zhao, 27, with a commercial dump truck near Magazine Street and Putnam Avenue Friday evening, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office.

A preliminary investigation shows that the man was driving the truck on Putnam Avenue toward Newton Street around 6:45 p.m., “just past the intersection of Magazine Street when, in an apparent attempt to turn right onto Magazine Street, he began to back up the vehicle,” prosecutors said in a press release.

Zhao was hit with the rear of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

A court date for the man had not been scheduled as of Tuesday afternoon. An investigation of the crash conducted by the district attorney’s office, Massachusetts State Police, and the Cambridge Police Department is ongoing.
