When state police K-9 Tank helped sniff out a wanted man believed to have been armed in Haverhill over the summer, one young resident decided she wanted to thank him.

Olivia Feil, 9, attends Silver Hill Elementary School, and her school was locked down back on Aug. 29 while police, including Tank with his handler, Trooper Thomas Janeczak, searched for the suspect, state police said.

Feil saved her weekly allowance with the goal of thanking Tank by buying him some new toys and treats. Recently, Feil was able to meet Tank and deliver the goodies she bought for him. Feil loves animals and wants to be a dog handler when she grows up, state police said.

“The Department would like to thank Olivia and her family for their kindness and generosity,” police said. “We — humans and dogs alike — are touched by their thoughtfulness.”

“Thank you Olivia! And Tank thanks you (‘woof-woof’) too!” they added.
