New Hampshire roller rink to close, reopen as pet resort

The owners of Great View Roller Skating in Enfield chalked up the decision to the sport's declining popularity and an attendance drop.

ENFIELD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s last big roller skating rink is going to shut down and reopen as a pet resort.

Peter and Diane Martin, the owners of Great View Roller Skating in Enfield, said the sport’s declining popularity and an attendance drop have forced them to rethink how they use their nearly 4-acre property.

Peter Martin said a growing number of pet owners are looking for high-quality places to board their animals. The 16,000 square-foot location is near ski areas, Dartmouth College and a highway.

The Martins bought Great View about 31 years ago from Al DeHavens, who operated the rink for a decade.
