Victims in fatal, wrong-way crash on I-495 identified

Three vehicles were struck during the crash, and three more people were brought to the hospital with injuries.

The two victims of the fatal, wrong-way crash on I-495 northbound at the Andover-Lawrence line on Wednesday have been identified.

Jyllian McGonagle, 38, of Lawrence, was driving the Kia Sportage, according to state police, which was the vehicle that reportedly crossed from southbound traffic into the northbound lanes, traveling in the wrong direction and striking three vehicles just before noon.

The other victim was Nelson Rivera, 56, also of Lawrence. Rivera was a passenger in the Honda Pilot that McGonagle’s vehicle reportedly struck head on.

Three other people were brought to the hospital, police said, including the driver of the Honda that Rivera was in, plus a 58-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman who were in a Toyota RAV4.

A 59-year-old Dracut man operating a Ford F350 was not injured when the Kia reportedly sideswiped his vehicle.

Police are continuing to investigate what happened, they said.
