Man drives off Quincy pier, but gets himself out of car and onto shore

A man drove off a Quincy pier and was taken to the hospital Saturday morning, according to State Police.

The man, who State Police said was about 53, drove his car into the water around 8:52 a.m. but was able to get himself out of the car and onto shore, said David Procopio, a spokesman, in an e-mail.

The man was taken to Boston Medical Center for evaluation, Procopio said. The extent of his injuries was not known.
