Another driver was taken to the hospital after the tractor-trailer reportedly struck the vehicle they were operating.

The driver of a tractor-trailer is dead after state police say the rig they were driving, towing a tanker of gasoline, rolled over on Route 24 northbound near Exit 8 in Fall River around 5:10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Another motorist was brought to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with injuries after the truck struck the vehicle they were driving. Their condition wasn’t known by police.

Police say the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not being released yet pending notification of their family.

Both directions of Route 24 were closed and traffic diverted onto nearby Airport Road while officials worked to clean up an “undetermined” amount of fuel that spilled, police said.

Officials were reportedly still at the scene after 9 a.m.
