A Florida man allegedly stabbed 2 people inside a Bridgewater home

"The family had flown him in last night. They picked him up."

A man and a woman were stabbed multiple times inside a Bridgewater home early Monday morning allegedly by a Florida man who police say was there as their guest.

Andrew Soto, 27, of Leesburg, Florida, was arrested at the Yoke Road residence after the two victims, who authorities believe are a husband and wife, were assaulted and called 911, Bridgewater Police Capt. Thomas Schlatz said at a press conference Monday morning.

Soto had flown in from Florida on Sunday night and was staying at the home, Schlatz said.

“The family had flown him in last night,” he told reporters. “They picked him up.”

Soto called the woman into a hallway shortly after she woke up around 5:30 a.m. and attacked her, police allege.

The man attempted to fend off the assault and was also wounded, according to Schlatz, who said the woman fled to a neighbor’s home and called police.

Both victims were brought to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton with “very serious” but nonlife-threatening injuries, Schlatz said. The woman had multiple stabbing wounds to the head, neck, and face, and the man was injured in his lower torso, he said.

Soto was arrested at the scene and brought to a hospital for an evaluation, according to Schlatz.

Police said the attack was not a random act. Soto’s relationship to the victims was unclear later Monday morning.

Schlatz told reporters that detectives were still determining charges against Soto as of 9 a.m., but said police expect to bring “at least two counts of attempted murder.”
