SAUGUS, Mass. (AP) — Officials in Saugus say a woman was killed when the car she was driving crashed through a garage and went down a snow-covered embankment.
Police and firefighters pulled the driver, a woman whose name was not immediately released, from the vehicle and used a sled to bring her to an ambulance. But she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Interim Saugus Police Chief Ronald Giorgetti says the crash which occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday is under investigation. No one else was in the car.
It was not immediately known if snow and freezing rain was a factor in the crash.
Giorgetti says the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection sent a crew to the scene to help clean up a reported oil leak.
