State trooper, tow truck driver struck and injured on Route 95

They sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

A Massachusetts state trooper and a tow truck driver were hospitalized early Tuesday after they were struck by a vehicle on Route 95 in Wakefield.

State police said both were standing outside of their own vehicles and attending to a disabled vehicle around 6:11 a.m. north of Exit 40 when they were hit. The vehicle that struck them also crashed into the parked tow truck.

The injured trooper was able to call for help, according to police. He and the tow truck driver were taken to Lahey Hospital in Burlington with injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

“Two motorists also may have sustained injuries believed at this time to be minor,” police said.

The circumstances around the crash remain under investigation, and police said no charges have yet been filed.
