Taunton police are investigating an armed home invasion after finding a man and woman with duct tape covering their mouths in a Morton Street apartment early Tuesday morning. The woman was holding a small child, police said.

Officers received a report of people being held against their will — possibly at gunpoint — at about 6:30 a.m. that morning, according to a release.

Forcing entry into the apartment, officers found the woman with duct tape and shirts covering her mouth, holding the child, and the man on his knees with duct tape over his mouth. The victims were not injured, police said.

Searching the apartment, officers saw multiple people jumping out of the windows and fleeing toward Taunton State Hospital, according to the release. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officers seized two firearms and one magazine as evidence, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information or who saw anyone fleeing in the area of Taunton State Hospital to call them at 508-824-7522.
