Police: Waltham officer injured in accidental gun discharge

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) — Police in Massachusetts say an officer has been injured in the accidental discharge of a service weapon.

The Waltham officer was taken to the hospital after shooting shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday and is expected to survive.

Police in a statement said the preliminary investigation revealed that no one else was involved or injured.

The officer’s name was not made public, but WBZ-TV reports she is a 30-year department veteran.

The department did not say what the officer was doing at the time of the accidental gunshot.

The shooting remains under investigation.
