R.I. driver suffers serious injuries from falling tree, police say

Strong winds uprooted the tree Monday evening.

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police in Rhode Island say a man suffered serious injuries after a tree fell on top of his car while he was driving.

The West Warwick Fire Department says the man was driving Monday evening when strong winds uprooted the tree, causing it to fall. Fire officials say the man was trapped in the car and crews had to pry the vehicle open to remove him from the vehicle.

The man was conscious and speaking to firefighters as they were tending to him. The unidentified man was then rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries.
