Whitman elementary school closed due to stomach virus

Officials said the school would be “deep cleaned” over the weekend.

A Whitman elementary school will be closed Friday after there were “multiple cases” of students contracting a stomach virus in recent days, authorities said.

Conley Elementary School will be “deep cleaned” over the weekend, said Jeffrey Syzmaniak, superintendent of the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District, in a statement on the school’s website.

The Whitman Fire Department said the district’s middle school was cleaned overnight as well.

“The remainder of our schools will be cleaned this weekend as a precaution,” the department said. “The bus company has also been notified to disinfect the buses.”

The elementary school will be prepared to reopen “as usual” on Monday, Syzmaniak said.
