A drunk driver crashed onto a Cape Cod beach, police say

The tide then started to flood the front of his car, according to police.

A drunk driver allegedly went through a stop sign early Monday morning and then drove over 100 feet of sand to the water’s edge of a beach in Falmouth, where the tide flooded the front of his car, police say.

Responding officers found the car unoccupied shortly after 1 a.m. and then located the driver attempting to hide in an adjacent yard, police said on Facebook

Police say the man drove through the stop sign at the end of Maravista Avenue and across Menauhant Road before coming to a stop on the beach.

The driver — the sole occupant of the car — was arrested for operating under the influence, operating to endanger, and operating with a suspended license, among other charges. A warrant had previously been issued for his arrest for having an uninsured and unregistered vehicle, police said.
