The father of one of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting was found dead of an apparent suicide Monday morning at the Edmond Town Hall in Newtown, Connecticut, police said.

Emergency responders were called to the performance venue around 7 a.m. where they found Jeremy Richman, 49, dead. The Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine a cause of death, but police said they will not disclose a method “or any other details of the death.” The death is not considered suspicious. Richman had an office within the building.

Richman was the father of Avielle Richman, a victim of the shooting that killed 20 students and six adults. Avielle was just 6 when she died on Dec. 14, 2012, according to The Avielle Foundation.

Richman was the CEO and co-founder of the nonprofit, which endeavors to “prevent violence and build compassion through neuroscience research, community engagement, and education,” according to its website.

“This is a heart breaking event for the Richman family and the Newtown Community as a whole, the police department’s prayers are with the Richman family right now, and we ask that the family be given privacy in this most difficult time.” Lt. Aaron Bahamonde said in a statement.
