Lexington police identify victim in deadly bike-path crash

An Arlington man died after he and another bicyclist collided on the Minuteman Bikeway.

Lexington police have released the name of the man who died Sunday after he and another bicyclist collided head on while riding on the Minuteman Bikeway.

Cary Coovert, 71, of Arlington, succumbed to his injuries from the crash on Sunday at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, police said in a statement.

Officers responded to the scene of the crash about a mile from the Arlington town line around 2:09 p.m. on Sunday. Police said Coovert and the other male cyclist were both wearing helmets.

“Both bicycle operators sustained serious injuries and were immediately treated at the scene and transported to a neighboring hospital,” police said.


According to Lexington police, the other bicyclist remained hospitalized on Monday. His name has not been released by police.
