The Lawrence man was not wearing a helmet, officials said.

A 24-year-old Lawrence man died after his Ice Bear scooter collided with an SUV early Thursday morning.

Methuen police say the driver of the scooter — whose name is being withheld pending family notification — was traveling westbound on Pelham Street in the city when he crossed the center line near Spencer Street and collided with an oncoming 2007 Toyota RAV4.

The 24-year-old man was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m., according to a release. He later died at Lawrence General Hospital.

The two occupants of the SUV were not injured, police say. The crash is under investigation.
