Man arrested for allegedly entering Wenham home and threatening residents with knife

Edward Erbacher was held on $10,000 bail.

Wenham police arrested a man for allegedly entering a home on Maple Street — where he was known to the residents — and assaulting a man inside Thursday night.

Edward Erbacher, 61, of Beverly, used a knife from the kitchen to threaten the two occupants, police said in a release.

He allegedly assaulted the man before fleeing toward Danvers in a Jeep. Danvers police found him on Route 128 and placed him under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol, Wenham police said. He was then taken to Wenham and booked on charges of home invasion and armed assault in a dwelling.

Erbacher was held on $10,000 bail at the Wenham Police Department pending arraignment at Newburyport District Court.
