A 35-year-old Taunton man was arrested and charged with drunken driving Monday after he crashed head-on with another vehicle, sending two children who were in his minivan to the hospital, Raynham police say.
The children, 5 and 7, were in Christopher Martin’s Town and Country van when he allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a Honda CRV, according to a release. The crash on East Britannia Street occurred around 4 p.m.
The two children were injured and taken by ambulance to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, officers say, while an adult woman driving the Honda was transported by ambulance to Morton Hospital in Taunton. Their injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Officers found two empty nips of vodka, an ounce of marijuana, and a digital scale in Martin’s vehicle, according to the release. He was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment of a child (two counts), and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, among other charges.
