Mass. judge charged with obstructing justice

A federal grand jury in Boston on Thursday handed up blockbuster indictments against a Newton District Court judge and a state court officer on obstruction of justice charges for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant evade ICE custody in the Newton courthouse last year.

The indictment, signed at 11:25 a.m. Thursday in US District Court, names Judge Shelley M. Richmond Joseph and Court Officer Wesley MacGregor as the defendants.

Both are charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice, obstruction of justice; aiding and abetting, and obstruction of a federal proceeding; aiding and abetting. MacGregor is also charged with perjury, records show. No arraignment date was contained in the court records.
