East Boston man charged with motor vehicle homicide after early Sunday crash

Dylan Etheridge, 22, also faces two other related charges.

The man accused of speeding and crashing a vehicle that killed a passenger and injured another early Sunday morning on Bennington Street in East Boston had bail set at $1,000 on Monday.

Dylan Etheridge, 22, of East Boston, was arraigned on charges of motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury, and leaving the scene of an accident after property damage, according to an email from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors believe Etheridge was speeding before the crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. near 1025 Bennington St., the email said. The vehicle, a gray Mazda, is thought to have hit “several” parked cars before striking a cement planter in the median of the road and landing on its roof.

When police arrived, they said the Mazda had “extensive damage.”

One of the passengers was declared dead at the scene while the other was thought to have nonlife-threatening injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital.

Etheridge took off on foot, according to the district attorney’s office, before authorities caught up to him and he was arrested. His next court date is slated for June 14.
