Cape Cod’s only strip club is closing

Zachary’s Pub has been sold and will shut down within 60 days.

Car lights streak by Zachary's Pub in Mashpee, the only pub on the cape that has strip-tease dancers. The parking lot has been full most nights and town officials are protesting. (right???)

Zachary’s Pub, Cape Cod’s only strip club, has been sold and will shut down within the next 60 days, The Cape Cod Times reports.

The Mashpee-based business, which sits on a 6.17-acre property along with a laundry facility and 50 single- and multi-family units in 13 buildings, was sold Tuesday for $2 million, according to the newspaper. Zachary’s owner Richard Halpern, 76, purchased the parcel back in 1986 when it was the Wigwam Motel and Cottages. In response to the club, the town created a zoning bylaw in 1998 that limited the placement of adult entertainment businesses.

A representative for the property’s new owner told the Times there is a plan to make improvements to the rental properties and leases for current tenants will be honored. But the new owner had no interest in continuing to run the club, which must shut down as a stipulation of the sale, according to the newspaper.
