Body of West Brookfield man pulled from river

Kevin Dion, 54, often fished near where his body was found, according to officials.

The body of a West Brookfield man was pulled from the Quaboag River not far from his home Saturday after he went missing while fishing, authorities said.

Several people in a small boat located Kevin Dion, 54, in the water near a bridge on Long Hill Road that evening around 6:30, according to a statement from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Dion packed a lunch and went fishing Saturday morning, officials said. He usually found a spot on the river’s north bank near the bridge, approximately a half-mile from his home, according to investigators.

“Saturday afternoon friends began searching for Mr. Dion because he was not answering his cell phone,” the statement says. “They found his folding chair and other belongings on the river bank.”

West Brookfield police retrieved his body after it was discovered. Officials said the death does not appear to be suspicious and authorities are continuing to investigate.
