Rhode Island man charged after dogs found in hot truck

Police say the dogs had been left in the trailer for an hour and nine minutes.

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man faces charges after police say he left five dogs alone in a trailer for more than an hour during a stiflingly hot day.

North Smithfield police say they responded to a store parking lot on Friday afternoon after getting multiple calls about the dogs.

Police say Jeffery Menard Levesque came out of the store a few minutes after officers arrived and said he had only been inside for a few minutes to use the restroom.

Police say the dogs had been left in the trailer for an hour and nine minutes.
