Multiple shark sightings closed two Cape beaches Sunday morning, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktivity App.
A great white was spotted 15 yards offshore at Nauset Public Beach in Orleans around 10 a.m. The beach closed for one hour.
At 11 a.m., spotter planes reported another shark sighting off Coast Guard Beach in Eastham. Lifeguards reported a plane circling near the inlet. The beach was closed to swimming until 12:08 p.m., according to the app.
August through October are peak months for great white activity off Cape Cod, according the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. The month has already seen multiple beach closures, and officials remain on high alert.
