A large fire tore through a six-unit apartment building in Taunton on Tuesday night. All residents are believed to have escaped safely, but everyone was displaced by the blaze.

Firefighters were called to 46 Harrison St. around 8:20 p.m., according to a release. They saw large flames and heavy smoke coming from the second floor and roof of the wood-framed building.

The building’s roof caved in around 10:30 p.m. after the fire hit three alarms.

About five departments, 35 firefighters, eight engines, and two ladder trucks were on scene at the time.

Upon arrival, firefighters used a ladder to rescue one man from a second-floor balcony, the release said. He did not need medical help.

One firefighter was treated for a heat-related condition at the scene. They are expected to be OK.
