Police arrest suspect who led troopers on chase near Longwood Medical Area

The suspect is being charged with fentanyl trafficking, assault and battery on a police officer, and motor vehicle offenses, officials said.

A suspect led police on a chase Monday evening before fleeing into a parking garage in the Longwood Medical Area, leading hospital officials to alert their staff of a potentially dangerous suspect in the area.

State Police initially said the suspect fled into a garage owned by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. But on Tuesday morning State Police said the garage at 375 Longwood Ave. is not owned by the hospital, and actually belongs to MASCO (Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization), a non-profit organization that provides services to the Longwood area.

State Police said the suspect, who failed to stop for police about 7:30 p.m. along Route 9, drove into the parking garage on Longwood Avenue in Boston. Troopers eventually found the suspect, who “fought violently’’ while police placed him under arrest around 8:45 p.m. Monday.
