While responding to a possible drowning at Grove Pond late Saturday afternoon, Ayer and state police reportedly found the body of a snowmobiler who had been missing for over a week.
Police said divers recovered the body of the 49-year-old man and a partially-frozen snowmobile, both of which were about 10 feet from where the man had been suspected of going missing.
Police were notified on Wednesday that the man had been missing for more than a week. A preliminary investigation suggested that the man’s last location was in the area of Grove Pond, where he was believed to have been driving a snowmobile on the ice. Investigators reported snowmobile tracks entering the pond but never exiting.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity.
