Mass. State Police shoot, arrest Framingham fugitive in West Springfield

Enrique Gonzalez, 42, was wanted on charges of cocaine possession and taking sexual photos of a minor.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) โ€” Police in Massachusetts have arrested a fugitive after exchanging fire with the suspect as he tried to evade capture.

The State Police say troopers apprehended 42-year-old Enrique Gonzalez after troopers spotted the Framingham resident leaving a West Springfield motel room on Friday.

Authorities say Gonzalez was shot after he fired on the troopers during an attempt to evade capture. According to the State Police, he was conscious and alert when he was arrested and is now recovering at a local hospital while under police guard.

No troopers were injured during Friday’s incident.

Gonzalez was wanted on charges of cocaine possession and taking sexual photos of a minor.

An attorney for Gonzalez could not be located on Saturday.

Because the incident involved a police-involved shooting it will be reviewed by the local prosecutor.
