SEYMOUR, Conn. (AP) — A man and woman were killed Friday when their car sank in the Housatonic River near New Haven as rescue workers frantically tried to free them, officials said.
The car crashed into the river around 3:45 p.m. in Seymour and ended up floating upside down about 75 yards from the river bank.
Seymour Fire Chief Michael Lombardi said some firefighters used a resident’s boat to reach the vehicle. The man and woman were still buckled into their seats.
Dive teams were later sent in to retrieve the bodies.
