Authorities find body of Methuen man missing at New Hampshire lake

Joseph Moreau went missing Friday.

AUBURN, N.H. (AP) — Authorities have found the body of an 83-year-old Massachusetts man who went missing on a New Hampshire lake late last week.

Members of the New Hampshire Fish and Game dive team located and recovered the body of Joseph Moreau, of Methuen, on Lake Massabesic in Auburn on Sunday, according to a statement from the Marine Patrol.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office responded and the victim was transported to Concord Hospital for an autopsy scheduled for Monday.

Moreau went missing Friday.

He launched his canoe to go fishing in the morning, and his wife reported him missing when he didn’t return home in the evening, authorities said.

Crews found Moreau’s car parked at a boat launch and his canoe was found in shallow water with his fishing gear inside.

The case remains under investigation.
