Officials identify Lowell woman who was killed by snow plow

The 27-year-old woman has since been identified as Deanne Fontes.

Authorities on Monday identified the 27-year-old woman who died Saturday night after being struck by a plow truck as Lowell resident Deanne Fontes.

The fatal crash happened during Saturday’s winter storm around 6:56 p.m. near the intersection of School and Cross Streets in Lowell, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Lowell police.

A 39-year-old Carlisle man was pushing Fontes in a wheelchair when the pair were hit by a Chevy Silverado with a snow plow attached, officials said. The impact reportedly threw Fontes under a parked car across the street.

Officials said first responders rushed to provide life-saving efforts, but Fontes was pronounced dead after being taken to Tufts Medical Center.

The man who was with her was also rushed to an area hospital where he is still being treated for his injuries, authorities added.

Local and state police, alongside the District Attorney’s Office, said their investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
