2 dead, 1 hurt after fire in Worcester apartment buildings

Responding firefighters found flames pouring from the building amid reports that several people were trapped inside.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) β€” Two people are dead and another person injured after a fire in an apartment building, Worcester firefighters said.

Deputy Fire Chief Martin Dyer said the two victims were found inside an apartment after firefighters arrived at the Jaques Avenue building around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The fire was also burning in an adjacent building.

Another person suffered serious injuries after jumping from a third floor apartment to escape the fire.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

β€œBoth fires have displaced numerous people and left them in need of immediate support,” City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. said in a statement.
