Several people suffered serious injuries in a crash Saturday morning on William McClellan Highway in East Boston, according to Boston police.

The two-car collision took place near Boardman Street at 4:11 a.m., Officer Kim Tavares, a police spokesperson, said by phone. Tavares could not confirm the number of people involved in the crash. She said multiple people were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
