CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) — Two people have died in a crash on Interstate 391 in Chicopee, state police said in a statement Wednesday.
The two-vehicle crash occurred in the southbound lanes at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.
According to the preliminary investigation, an Acura MDX and a Kia Soul both moved from the middle lane of the highway to the left lane to pass another vehicle.
They both moved back to the middle lane, but the Kia went of out control and collided with the Acura, state police said. Both vehicles went off roadway and struck trees.
The drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Tiana Vega, 20, of Springfield, who was driving the Acura, and John Burkott, 28, of Springfield.
The crash remains under investigation.
