3-year-old boy pulled from Plymouth pond dies at hospital

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A 3-year-old boy pulled from a pond in Plymouth last week died over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

The boy, identified by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office as Jonathan Hackett, died at the hospital on Saturday.

The boy was rescued by first responders from Hedges Pond Plymouth at about 7 p.m. Thursday. He went into medical distress and was removed from the pond by an off-duty firefighter and police officer, officials said. He was wearing a life vest.

He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth before being transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital.

The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, according to the district attorney’s office.
