A father and son were found dead early Wednesday afternoon in New Hampshire, and authorities believe the father shot his son before turning the pistol on himself.
Hinsdale police were called to 767 Plain Road around 12:53 p.m. for a shooting. There, they found David Lent, 47, and Tyler Gilbert, 12, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A pistol was found near Lent, and a witness told authorities Lent killed his son before shooting himself, according to a press release from the New Hampshire Department of Justice.
Lent was living at the home at the time of his death. Gilbert lived in Vermont and was visiting his father and grandparents, authorities said.
Officials said they were investigating “suspicious deaths” in Hinsdale on Wednesday but didn’t specify what happened at the time.
While officials are continuing to investigate, they said they do believe it was a murder-suicide.
