Moped crash leaves woman dead, man seriously injured in Lynn

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A woman is dead, and a man injured, after a moped and a dump truck collided Tuesday morning in Lynn.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Western Avenue and Washington Street, NBC10 Boston reported.

“The dump truck and scooter were both traveling on Western Avenue taking right-hand turns onto Washington Street,” ​​Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said, according to WCVB. “The scooter was on the inside of the dump truck, and they collided as they began to make the turn.” 

Initially, it was believed the man was driving the moped, but later it was found that it was actually the female victim, WCVB reported.


The woman, 55, from Lynn, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died, according to NBC10.

The male passenger, 68, also from Lynn, was rushed to the hospital with injuries thought to be serious. He’s expected to survive, the news station reported.

The victims’ identities have not been released.

“Obviously, it’s something we’ve been talking about for years with the scooters operating in the cities where there’s a lot of traffic,” Kmiec said, according to NBC10.
