FALMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A man arrested after a fight outside a Cape Cod restaurant early Friday collapsed while in police custody and later died at the hospital, authorities said.
The death is under investigation by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office and the state medical examiner’s office, the DA’s office said in a statement.
An officer on patrol spotted a disturbance in front of the restaurant at about 12:15 a.m., stopped his cruiser and attempted to break up the fight, according to the statement. Both men were taken into custody and transported to the police station.
One of them, a 30-year-old man, collapsed at the police station.
Officers attended to the man, then called Falmouth Rescue, which transported the man to Falmouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
No additional information was released.
