Officials identify Malden shooting victim

Daquelle Matthews, 22, of Boston, was shot and killed Saturday night outside of the 7-Eleven on Salem Street.

MALDEN — Officials have identified Daquelle Matthews of Boston as the 22-year-old who was shot and killed outside a convenience store Saturday night, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Chief of Police Kevin Molis.

Malden Police were called to the 7-Eleven on Salem Street around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, after reports of shots fired, according to the statement.

Police say Matthews allegedly had a brief interaction with multiple individuals in front of the convenience store before one of them opened fire, striking him.

The nature of the interaction is part of the investigation into what happened, according to the statement.


No arrests have been made at this time, according to authorities.

After the shooting, officials say Matthews was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Sunday, the Office of the Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death to be homicide by gunshot wounds, according to the statement.
