One woman dead, another injured after fire in Arlington apartment building

The 2-alarm fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. at Chestnut Manor on Medford Street.

One woman is dead and another injured after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Arlington, according to 7 News Boston.

The TV station reported that firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at the seven-story Chestnut Manor on Medford Street around 4:30 a.m.

The blaze started in a third-floor unit, fire officials told NBC 10 Boston.

Fire Chief Kevin Kelley told 7 News Boston that the woman living in that apartment alerted authorities and left the building safely.

A woman from a neighboring apartment was rescued, but pronounced dead at a local hospital, the chief told the news station.

Another resident was also taken to a local hospital, but is expected to be OK, according to 7 News Boston.

Residents on the third floor of the building and below had to evacuate the building, according to Boston 25 News.

Some were picked up by family members while others stayed on a bus to keep warm, according to NBC 10.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
