LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — The trial of a man accused of opening fire in a crowded Lawrence nightclub, killing two people and injuring two others, has started.
Opening statements in the murder trial of 32-year-old Johan Saint Clair are expected Wednesday in Lawrence Superior Court, following jury selection on Tuesday.
The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/PX1yDr ) reports that prosecutors say the shooting in La Guira nightclub in September 2010 was drug-related, and Saint Clair was targeting members of rival gang who had stolen cocaine from him.
Two Boston residents, Amarilis Roldon and Juan Esteban Suazo-Soto, both 24, were killed. Valerie Verdejo and Jose Luis Medrano Baez were shot, but survived.
Saint Clair fled the scene in a car and was captured later.
He has pleaded not guilty to several charges including two counts of first-degree murder.
