Longtime WBZ NewsRadio 1030 news director sent packing by new owner

The change of ownership of one of Boston’s best-known radio stations — namely, WBZ NewsRadio 1030 — has cost the station’s longtime director of news and programming his job.

Peter Casey, who’d been with the station for 24 years, was terminated after iHeartMedia assumed ownership of WBZ 1030 following the merger of Entercom Communications Corp. and CBS Radio.

We’re told Casey got emotional as he made the announcement to the WBZ newsroom Wednesday morning. In a note to the staff later in the day, he cited many of the great WBZ personalities he’d been privileged to work with, citing Dave Maynard, Gary LaPierre, Diane Stern, Anthony Silva, David Brudnoy, Paul Sullivan, and Dan Rea, in particular.
