R.I.-based Coast Guard cutter returning from Arctic

A US Coast Guard vessel based in Newport, R.I., is returning home after a 53-day patrol of Arctic waters. The Coast Guard cutter Juniper is scheduled to return to port Sunday morning after a trip of more than 6,500 miles. As part of Operation Nanook, the Juniper conducted safety and security operations with naval and Coast Guard units from Denmark and Canada. It also simulated a search and rescue near an air base in Greenland, and conducted a Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization patrol designed to reduce the threat of foreign poaching.
