V. Stiviano, the girlfriend of embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, is under investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney for allegedly trying to blackmail Sterling after releasing recordings of racist comments the owner made.
According to a report from TMZ, Stiviano’s associates are claiming Sterling’s camp contacted them about how to “make this go away.’’ But the report says that things were the other way around, with Stiviano’s people reaching out about keeping other recordings quiet.
Stiviano alluded to those other recordings, more than 100 hours of them according to TMZ, when she sat down with Barbara Walters just days after the first recording was released. Stiviano also described her relationship with Sterling as a financial one.
KABC-7 in Los Angeles cited sources familiar with the investigation in a report that says one of Sterling’s associates tipped authorities to the alleged blackmail.
News of the investigation comes after some of Sterling’s comments in a DuJour Magazine interview raised questions about a possible extortion attempt. Sterling told the magazine he wished he “had just paid her off.’’
The TMZ report said authorities with the district attorney’s office would not comment on the matter.
